CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Pregnancy or breast feeding
- Waxing or other types of plucking during the last 4 weeks ( you can only cut or shave)
- Fresh tan (4 weeks before the treatment)
- Fake tan on the area
- Using cosmetics with retinol or AHA on the treated area for the last 4 weeks
- Intensive exfoliations, microdermabrasion or AHA treatments on the area for the last 3 weeks
- Skin disorders / pigmentation disorders
- Skin infections
- Blisters or fresh scars on the area
- Tattoos on the area
- Photodermatitis – photoallergy / allergies
- Herpex Simplex (for lips area)
- Psychosis
- Epilepsy
- Keloids
- Antibiotic during the last week
- Taking betacaroten for the last month
- Any photosensitive drugs ( most of Antidepressants, Hypoglycaemics, Retinoids, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Ketoprofen, Celecoxib and other – please always check on the leaflet if drug makes you sensitive to the light if unsure you can check with the doctor or with us)

AFTERCARE
- Tanning the skin is not advised between treatments. The skin needs to be as pale as possible for optimum results. (Tanned skin cannot be treated, as the skin will absorb too much energy)
Rule no 1: NO TANNING FOR 4 WEEKS BEFORE THE TREATMENT AND 2 WEEKS AFTER - No Heat treatments are permitted for 24/48 hrs (Sauna, steam room, hot showers & bathes)
- No swimming pool for a 7 days after the treatment
- Be gentle do not irritate, scratch the skin after the treatment
- No make up application for 24hrs, with the exception of mineral make up
- No application of perfumed products for 24/48 hrs after.
- No deodorant for 2 days after the treatment
- SPF min 30 is recommended between the treatments
- Aloe Vera gel may be applied to sooth skin if necessary afterwards.
- No waxing or tweezing of the hairs is permitted between treatments, as a root must be present in the follicle in order for the laser to work.
- Shaving is permitted as often as you wish between treatments just not 2 days after the treatment
- In the unlikely/ rare event that a blister/burn should occur, you can apply panthenol. Do not burst the blister as this may leave a mark on the skin. Apply 3 times daily. Do not expose the area to sunshine, as you may increase risk of pigmentation.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
To eliminate hair, the laser emits gentle pulses of energy that pass through the skin to the hair follicle. This energy is then absorbed by the hair follicle to destroy it so that hair can never grow there again. The laser is able to destroy only hair which are in active growing stage called Anagen. Some of the hair will be in a dormant or a resting phase of the growth cycle. The follow- up treatments will destroy these hairs and eventually there would be no more dormant hair left to grow resulting in a permanent hair loss of the treated area.
It depends on a number of factors unique to you that will tell how many treatments and what frequency of follow up treatments will be required. We need approximately 7 treatments with a break of 4-8 weeks between them to get rid of unwanted hair.
Facial areas are slower to respond, so can easily take approximately 10 sessions. Coarser, darker respond faster. Medium & light brown hair, results will be slower.
It is estimate the amount of treatments a client needs for facial hair, because it is dependent on how coarse it is, how dark it is and whether there are enough hairs present in the first place. Fine blonde facial hairs have less pigment & therefore are not treatable with laser. Electrolysis is recommended instead.
No. The laser works only for hairs which contains pigment. Blonde, white, grey and light red hair colour unfortunately will not respond to laser treatment.
- You should stop plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for four weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking. We want to ensure your follicles are full and you have enough hair to treat.
- You should also avoid sun exposure for four weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.
- Do not use sunbeds 4 weeks before and while having a course. You will seriously damage your skin if you use Sunbeds during the course of your treatments.
- It is extremely important that you don’t use any fake tan for a week before your treatment. Ensure the treatment area is free from tan, otherwise and lightly exfoliate few days before your first session.
- Shave the area 1 day before the treatment, not on the day because when you shave you slightly exfoliate and irritate the area so allow the extra time overnight for the skin to regenerate and make treatment more comfortable.
- Make sure you don’t take any photosensitive drugs for a week before the treatment
- Facial hairs do not need to be clipped/shaved back, as this is a small zone & easy for the therapist to clip.

At Laser Clinique we recommend a minimum course of 7 sessions. Provided that you adhere to the clinics guidelines and recommendations clients can expect to achieve a 90% reduction in hair growth. Hair that is treated with laser will not return, but it is possible that new hair follicles can be stimulated over time by hormones or ageing and new hair growth is observed. Most clients require 1—2 maintenance treatments a year following a course. In very rare cases some clients don’t react to treatment (around 5-7% due to deep location of the hair follicle or hormone disorders). Blonde, white, grey and light red hair colour unfortunately will not respond to laser treatment.
We are unable to give a guarantee however we estimate an 80% permanent reduction after a course of 7 treatments and recommended intervals. Factors which can impact how successful results are include: hair colour, hair texture, skin colour, treatment intervals, not adhering to treatment protocols, hormonal imbalances, medical history can all interfere with outcomes. Unfortunately, areas influenced by hormones i.e. facial, neck, navel, and nipples cannot be given the same guarantee as it is out of our control. Treatment of these areas is very successful in reducing hair growth but new hairs may be stimulated to grow in the future.

The diode laser impulse will destroy 100% of all active hair growing in the hair follicles. Only the Diode Laser and NDYag laser types can guarantee this on all skin areas. It is scientifically impossible for any IPL to reach to the correct depth required.
