Microneedling

Microneedling, also called derma-needling is a collagen induction therapy. It is a minimally invasive non surgical skin-revitalization process that is carried out through a power hand device that contains very fine needles.

The power hand tool is applied on a prepped with lidocaine gel skin. It creates tiny channels into dermis of skin to initiate the body’s natural healing process by boosting collagen and elastin. The end result is an improved smooth texture of skin, minimized fine lines, scars and hyperpigmentation. Though it’s not a skin resurfacing technique, however, improved dermal thickness can also help in reforming contour deformities and depressed scars. Microneedling is surely a breakthrough in anti-aging and skin rejuvenation treatment that gives 100 percent results.

AFTERCARE

  • Do not perform any vigorous exercise for at least 12 hours after treatment.
  • Do not apply make-up for at least 12 hours after the treatment.
  • Microneedling may trigger a cold sore response in patients and a prophylaxis medication should be recommended to those who are prone to breakouts.
  • For the first 1-3 days the skin will be very dry and feel tight. The best is to use cream with panthenol to speed up the regeneration process. Remember also to hydrate your skin.
  • After 2-3 days patients can return to regular skin care products or as soon as it is comfortable to do so.
  • Avoid alcohol based toners 10-14 days.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 10 days if possible.

PRE-PROCEDURE ADVISE

  • No Retin-A products or applications for 12 hours prior to treatment.
  • No Auto-immune therapies or products for 12 hours prior to treatment.
  • No prolonged sun exposure or sun burns to the treatment area 24 hours prior to treatment.
  • If an active or extreme breakout occurs before treatment, evaluate on a case by case basis.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Day 1: Erythema and red appearance and severity will depend upon how aggressive the treatment was performed.
  • Day 2: A red hue or pink hue persists like a moderate sunburn. Swelling may be more noticeable on the second day.
  • Day 3-5: Skin can be pink or normal color. Swelling subsides.

You will notice a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles after about 2 weeks from the initial treatment as collagen begins to reproduce. How long results last are dependent on your diet, lifestyle habits and general skincare practices. As our skin continues to age with the rest of us, a holistic anti-aging regime including maintenance treatments should be expected in order to maximize and maintain results. Once the final result is obtained, it is generally recommended to have one or two sessions a year to maintain the outcome but they can last even up to 2 years.
